Information about Blu-ray Technology

So you are trying to decide whether to invest in blu-ray technology. You may be asking yourself 'what is blu-ray technology? Well the answer is that it is an advanced form of a DVD that can hold much more information, and can show a much clearer high definition picture of a movie, so it is compatible with high definition televisions. This is the simplified answer.
The blu-ray disc gets its name due to the use of the violet blue ray laser that reads and writes the data on the disc. Conventional DVDs use a red laser to read and write to it. It is more advanced than anything on the market today. The blu-ray disc player will allow you to play your current conventional DVD movies, and some machines will even let you upscale the format of the current DVDs to make them even better for high definition televisions.
The difference between blu-ray and high definition discs is that blu-ray does hold more data, and studies show that blu-ray technology is able to show a more detailed picture because of the lens aperture. Whether the picture is noticeably better by the average viewer is up for debate.
Blu-ray technology leaves room for advancement and also for use in computing and other technologies. This is because of the technology that is behind the blu ray format. It is faster to read and write a blu ray disk. It does allow for recording high definition movies and programs from high definition televisions. It has a beautiful picture, and the discs have a special coating to help them resist scratching.
A tug of war in the technical and movie worlds like what we saw between Beta verses VHS is now going on between the makers of the blu-ray disc and the creators of the HD Discs. At this time both formats are being sold and movies are being made for both formats. Who will come out on top is not clear. Blu-ray is more expensive for both the players and the discs than are the HD players and discs. They both will play current DVD formats. Unless there is a compromise between the two like a player that will play both formats, or a player that has both format drives in it side
by side, we will have to just wait and see who comes out on top; like we did with the Beta and the VHS players.
Each format has backing from movie studios, computer companies, and other technological companies. The backers are high dollar heavy weights in each of their fields. Both blu-ray and HD disc have high quality pictures, but what weighs in the favor of blu-ray is the technology that can still be improved upon in the future. HD Disc has cost on its side at least for now. We all know how costs come down over time.
Everyone has a personal choice, and there are many reasons to choose each one. For this writer blu-ray is my choice due to the possibilities it holds for technology in the future. We always have to look to the future when we are looking at technology, because it is ever changing and improving upon itself.
